Common Questions
Questions are welcome here.
Every family comes to this work with different histories, hopes, and hesitations. These are the questions parents most often ask as they consider stepping into In Awe.
About the companion
Because guides point the way. Companions stay with you.
Pregnancy already comes with excellent guides—your provider, your birth plan, your doula, your prenatal class. They tell you what’s coming and how to prepare for it, and they do that well. In Awe was built for the part none of them are designed to hold: the identity shifts, the relational changes, the questions no medical visit fully answers, and the meaning-making that only you can do.
It doesn’t compete with those guides. It exists for the hundreds of hours between them—the part no guide can walk for you.
Many people describe pregnancy, birth, loss, and becoming a parent as experiences that feel larger than words alone. In Awe makes room for that dimension of experience without asking you to adopt a particular belief system.
You’ll find reflections, rituals, and blessings that invite connection to something larger than yourself: lineage, earth, love, continuity. However you name that—spirit, nature, ancestors, God, or simply wonder—this space is made to hold it. Every tradition and no tradition are welcome here.
No. In Awe is not a substitute for medical care. It helps integrate body, heart, and culture so your choices can rest within your own clarity and values—alongside, not instead of, the clinical care you receive.
Is this right for me?
Absolutely. In Awe isn’t only about pregnancy itself. It’s about the ways pregnancy continues changing us—before birth, after birth, and sometimes long after pregnancy itself has ended.
You’ll find guidance for healing, integration, and legacy, no matter when your pregnancy or loss occurred. If you’ve ever carried life, cared for life, or held space for its memory, you belong here.
Absolutely. There are many wonderful resources to help you through pregnancy, and you’re encouraged to use them alongside In Awe.
Your birth plan, doula, or prenatal class helps you care for your body and baby. In Awe accompanies the transformation taking place in the hundreds of hours between those moments of care—the becoming that unfolds alongside the practical preparation. They occupy different spaces. Both matter.
The Older Parents & Old Souls Edition was written especially for older parents—attuned to maturity, timing, and legacy—and remains adaptable and deeply helpful for others drawn to this approach. Parents who don’t identify as "older" still find it grounding and transformative.
Further editions are coming for queer and trans parents, parents of color, parents navigating survival and resilience, and parents living with disability or chronic illness. You are welcome here now.
Yes. In Awe is trauma-informed, outcome-inclusive, and gender-aware. All parents, all paths to family, all identities are honored. Partners are included but not assumed. You are welcome here as you are.
In Awe was designed for partners to be part of the journey from the start. Every chapter includes guidance, scripts, and reflections that help partners understand what’s unfolding—physically, emotionally, and relationally—so you can walk through change together instead of apart.
Each section includes at least one chapter just for the partner and their own transformation: what it means to witness, to protect space, to support recovery, and to grow into themselves through parenthood or grief. In Awe also includes partner Bridges—dedicated threshold reflections that mirror each module from the partner’s perspective, helping both of you build language, presence, and shared legacy.
Loss and the harder path
Loving Legacies is included with In Awe so the companion walks with you no matter where your journey leads. If you’re discovering this while loss is unfolding, you can join Loving Legacies directly—it is offered separately so care is never withheld from families who need it now.
If you’re pregnant again after an earlier loss, In Awe will hold you. You’ll find language for the complexity of hope and grief existing together, practices to help you feel safe in your body again, and reflections that honor both the baby you carry now and the one you still carry in your heart. Both circles are yours to belong to.
In Awe was created to walk with you through every possible outcome. If your birth unfolds differently than you hoped, you’ll find guidance for healing from physical or emotional trauma, navigating complications, and caring for yourself through birth injuries, NICU stays, or new diagnoses.
If your path includes miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a baby, Part II—Loving Legacies—is ready to receive you. It offers guidance for what follows: honoring your baby, caring for your body, and companionship for whatever comes next.
